1. What is an Erasmus?

Erasmus is an exchange program where student have the chance to do a semester or even a full year depending on the agreement with your home institution, at another institution in another country. In this case the program is in Kortrijk, Belgium. You can do a 5 months exchange or the full one year bachelor.

2. Where can I live?

VIVES has its own student residence in Kortrijk, located close to the city center. The residence get’s full quickly so it is recommended to start the renting process has soon as possible. There is also apartment and other residence that are available to students. You can find all that information on the website or simply ask the previous Erasmus of VIVES.

3. What are the courses and program involved in the exchange?

First, all the courses are given in English. All the courses are separate from the Flemish in VIVES and there is different field of programs also. Business, Engineering, Focus on health life organisation and well-being in society(FLOW), Informatics, International classroom key in education.

4. How is the town and country?
-
Kortrijk is a nice town located in the Flemish part of Belgium. The resident mostly communicates in Flemish but also speak French and English. There is about 80 000 people living in Kortrijk and around 120 Erasmus. The cost of living is average, not to expensive since it is not a touristic city, you can find cheap eating and places to drink and activities in a student range of budget.

5. Traveling Europe in Erasmus?

Since Belgium is not a very big country it is easy to travel from one province to another, Oostende has really nice beach, Bruges a lot of medieval monuments and is very nice, Ghent is a very lively town and let’s not forget about Brussels, the hearth of Belgium where there is a lot of beautiful things to see and do. The French part is called Wallonia, you can find Liege and much more nice places to see and visit. Within VIVES organised trip, the student has the chance to visit a lot of Belgium and Paris and Amsterdam. Belgium is also well located so a lot of counties are not far to travel to plus it is recommended to planned trips in advance, so it is cheaper that way.

6. Do I need a student visa?

If you are an international student apart from the European Union, you will need a visa. All the information is available on the Belgium government website for incoming student. It is recommended to start the process months before your departure since it can take a long time.
